Applied Felt Sense Philosophy

Applied Felt Sense Philosophy

Often, as our yoga and teaching practice blossoms, we find ourselves questioning how we can translate and infuse the wonderful philosophy that inspires us from ancient and modern texts, into coherent movement practices that support our students in authentic, relatable ways. We may begin to crave offering practices that feel rich, meaningful and structured, but that also have space for discovery and self-agency within that; so different bodies, abilities and energies can all simultaneously feel supported in a class.

And this can feel like a complex thing to balance! But a beautiful aspect of our space-holding growth can be found in discovering how the philosophy is already right here. Within the body, the felt sense, intuition, gut, reflectiveness & within the lessons from our own lived experiences. And by opening a conversation between the body and that wealth of insight, we might start to find the movement + philosophy interweave with ease and coherence, and our teaching blossom.

So I’d love to invite you to a workshop for teachers in practical ways to explore and share yoga philosophy in movement practices, without the clunkiness - looking at: cueing, language, somatic movement principals, breath techniques, embodied philosophy & how to share more inclusive practices by taking a curiosity-led approach to facilitation.

This could be really useful if you:
- Find yourself trying to shoehorn in philosophical quotes at end/beginning class to give more 'depth' or come across as a ‘super knowledgeable’ teacher (very human!)

- Are interested in offering a more somatic, enquiry-based, inclusive and conversational space, in which journey is prioritised over destination, and feeling prioritised over form.

- Are a yoga teacher wanting to share the philosophical ideas & texts that inspire you in classes, but don’t where to start.

- Feel a little stale, or like you have rehearsed cues or set sequences - perhaps taught to you in past teacher trainings – and are keen to find a more authentic, self-trusting way of teaching informed by your own unique voice.

- Notice yourself guiding classes solely focused on body/anatomical cues when really you want to share more.
- Are curious about deepening your relationship with language, expression & metaphor.

-Want to guide in a way that provides containment and structure for your students, but with space for freedom and exploration.

Devotional Sound

“If you want the truth, I’ll tell you the truth: Listen to the secret sound, the real sound, which is inside you.”

― Kabir

This is a playful, multi-modality day workshop open to all craving a deeper relationship with the practices of Bhakti, mantra & sound (taught through a Non Dual Tantric lens.)

As we’ve done in community pretty much since the dawn of time - sharing song or sound practices together feels a wonderful, deeply natural thing to do. A practice that often reanimates an inner sense of existing as part of something far greater than the individual ‘I’- the wider web of livingness, universe and humankind itself perhaps. And when we consider many of the embryonic writings about Yoga came in the form of Vedic hymns - sound is essentially the fundamental ground of our yoga practice and its philosophical roots too!

What you'll learn:

-The playful, joyful potential of your voice, Practical vocal techniques to nurture and develop it.
-Learning the historical and philosophical contexts of, and breaking down Sanskrit translations for: x2 mantras + 1 kirtan style song
-Exploring different types, styles of singing mantra (japa, kirtan, call & response etc)
-The history, stories & context of different sound practices within yoga (Bhakti/Nada Yoga etc)
-Native (UK) medicine songs and traditions
-Discussion//group-work & time to play with a range of instruments including the harmonium
-Uplifting Kirtan style sing & jam session
-A closing sound meditation

Purna: Wholeness & Fullness extended practice

Purna: Wholeness & Fullness extended practice

From the trove of embodiment practices yoga offers us, we're able to reinvigorate an underlying innate sense of our own wholeness and enoughness, that is always there. The philosophy of 'purna' & 'shukrita' teaches us that from fullness comes fullness and we are already inherently well made and whole - nothing needs be added or taken away. A sense that often gets dulled by the clutter of modern life's striving and comparing but through presence and awareness we re-remember.

Through nourishing omnidirectional movement and breath practices with some spirally work into the fascial lines, we'll cultivate a balanced tone throughout the whole body that awakens this felt sense of fullness.

Opening with somatic meditation to clear out and tune in, we'll close with stilness and a wonderful chant.
